Robots

Since 2005, FIRST Team 1708 has competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.

2023-2024: Shockwave

Shockwave was the first pick of alliance 5 at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional and Captain of the 8th alliance at Buckeye. The drivetrain was a Mark IVi Kraken powered swerve and the mechanism featured a beam break sensor and CANdle which alerted drivers to possession of a game piece to score in either the speaker or the amp.

2022-2023: Python

Python won the Miami Valley Regional and went on to compete on the Galileo field at Worlds in Houston. It featured a Mark IV i drivetrain complemented by a rotating wrist for manipulating both cones and cubes. Python took over 300 hours of machine time to build and utilized carbon fiber rods as stabilizers with NylonX custom mounts.
