Greater Pittsburgh Regional

So much to talk about!

We competed at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional this past weekend and proudly took home the Judges Award! We were seeded 10th at the end of qualification matches and captained the 8th alliance in quarterfinal competition.  The Greater Pittsburgh Regional is our home regional, so we were so excited and proud to compete at the top level on our home turf. Our team played hard, and handed our friends the Hawaiian Kids (Team 359) their only loss during finals competition. We took a ton of great pictures this weekend, so please check out the gallery to see our team in action.  We were also featured in the Tribune Review this weekend! http://triblive.com/local/westmoreland/12006207-74/robotics-teams-from-western-pennsylvania-nationwide-add-human-element-to-mechanized-battles

It was a pleasure to see and play with so many of our friends on the Steel City Robotics Alliance during the Pittsburgh Regional and we wish everyone the best of luck during the rest of the season!

As part of our work in Pittsburgh, we are also starting the FIRST Lettering Initiative to help other teams achieve varsity lettering status at their school. Watch this space for more information, and hit our contact link or send us an email at first.team1708@gmail.com to get involved!

Winter Community Outreach

Community outreach and support doesn't stop for Team 1708 when build season comes- even when we are busy, we still make time to help those around us. This past week, we donated extra bread from our team lunch to Sonshine Community Ministries soup kitchen. We are also holding a clothing drive for the Women's Shelter and Center of Pittsburgh from February 6th to February 20th. If you have donations to contribute, please bring them to the shop. Thanks!

Thank you!

Thank you so much for coming out and supporting us for the Souper Bowl! We made over $1000, and we won the golden ladle for our loaded potato soup!

Souper Bowl Season!

It's time for our first fundraiser and community outreach event! Please join us on January 29th, 2017 for the Soup Bowl! There will be many soups to try and we are bringing the robots! Hope to see everyone there!

Varsity. Letters.

We have varsity letters! The school board has officially designated robotics as a varsity sport with its own unique letters! We are so humbled and proud to have varsity letters. We are so excited to be one of only a handful of teams that have letters and we are going to be so loud about FIRST with our new jackets!
